Chief Executive Officer
Josh runs day-to-day operations for Apps for Aptitude. Launching the concept in June of 2012, he began to learn how to develop apps and games; noticing the market possibilities. In addition to running the non profit corporation, Josh is an Eagle Scout, a neuroscience and ophthalmic researcher, a member of the Lee Varsity tennis team, and a Voelcker Scholar. He will be a junior at the International School of the Americas.
Chief Operating Officer
Abhinav Suri has been developing websites since 2010 and was in the Apps for Aptitude project at the beginning. He also is a Voelcker scholar (researching mitochondria), Ramsdell scholarship winner, two-time DeBose National Piano Competition champion, and web developer of his robotics team. He also participates in speech tournaments and qualified for the National Forensics League Tournament in 2013. He will be a junior at Saint Mary's Hall.
Chief Information Officer
Canzhi Ye is passionate about entrepreneurship and has been developing iOS applications since 2009. He is most notably the co-founder and app developer of Rectangle: a San Antonio iOS startup based on printing out instagram photos. In 2013, he led his school's Quiz Bowl team to its first ever nationals appearance, a truly great accomplishment. In addition, he is a varsity swimmer and an avid pianist. He will be graduating from Reagan High School in the spring of 2014.
Chief Technology Officer
Jacob Van Geffen began developing for the Android platform since 2011 and has been perfecting his skills ever since. In 2012, Jacob published G-Force Arena: a visually stunning and highly successful Android app. He also plays Ultimate Frisbee for his club team in Houston and programs competitively for his high school, taking the title of District Champion with his team in 2013. He will be a senior at Seven Lakes High School.
Head of Public Relations
Mia Benavidez is the head of Public Relations at Apps for Aptitude- she helps to spread the word about AFA. Mia is looking forward to being apart of our team and engaging the public about our mission. In addition, she also participates in Model United Nations San Antonio (MUNSA) and is a member of the Varsity volleyball team at Robert E. Lee. She is a junior at the International School of the Americas.
Eva Howard is the Project Manager, meaning she’s in charge of organizing service projects for AFA. With a devotion to activism and service, Eva is an intern with the National Organization for Women and volunteers regularly at the Methodist Hospital of San Antonio. In her free time, she referees youth soccer games, participates in Model UN, and serves on student council. She is a junior at the International School of the Americas.
Secretary & Head of Marketing
Cosmo Albrecht runs the marketing side of AFA. Aside from creating marketing platforms for Apps for Aptitude, he enjoys engaging in Speech and Debate, placing well in various competitions. Most recently, he placed 3rd in Extemporaneous commentary at the National Forensics League competition. Cosmo is president of the Spanish Honor Society and does theater. He will be a senior at the International School of the Americas.
Head of Social Media
Alejandro Juul is currently serving as AFA’s Director of Social Media. He is also currently a Life Scout in the BSA, the Director of Scholarship Funds for the Junior Statesmen of America Program, the president of his school’s MUN club, a bassist for the Youth Orchestras of San Antonio, and recently served as a lab assistant this past summer for a cardiovascular lab at the UT Health Science Center.
Social Media & Content Manager
Anthony Qi is the Assitant Social Media Manager for Apps for Aptitude. He is a senior at Seven Lakes High School in Katy, Texas. He is a National Merit Finalist and is part of the school’s quiz bowl team, for which he won the State Championship in 2012. He is also part of UIL Academics, captaining his school’s Spelling & Vocabulary Team. His good looks and sharp wit make him an excellent addition to the Apps for Aptitude team.
Barbara Thomas, Lady Judge, CBE, is an American lawyer, businesswoman who lives in London and has dual citizenship. Lady Judge is Chairman Emeritus of the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA), Chairman of the Pension Protection Fund, and UK Business Ambassador on behalf of UK Trade & Investment. In February 2013 she was assessed as one of the 100 most powerful women in the United Kingdom by Woman's Hour on BBC Radio 4.
Associate Professor of Education at Trinity University, Author of Leading for Powerful Learning: A Guide for Instructional Leaders. Her teaching and research interests focus on teacher education, best practice in high school education, adult learning and professional development, professional learning communities, and the transformational learning of individuals and organizations.
Principal at International School of the Americas. This year marks her ninth year at the International School of the Americas. She arrived in the fall of 1997 as an intern pursuing her Masters in Teaching from Trinity University after having earned my Bachelors of Arts from Trinity and has now made ISA into a successful school known across San Antonio.
